I WAS horrified when I read in the local newspaper that the "powers-that-be" are proposing to close the post offices in Leighton, Linslade and Eaton Bray.
At a time when the population of the town is growing, with even more housing due to be built in the near future, I find it astonishing that these closures could be contemplated. It is ridiculous to think that a town the size of Leighton Buzzard could have no sub post offices. I know we can get stamps from other outlets but where do they think people, who are unable to walk far and have no means of transport, are going to post parcels for instance.

I wish to register my absoloute opposition to these proposed closures, but will not be able to voice my opinions at the forthcoming consultation meetings. In any case, I suspect that the consultation is a "whitewash" designed to make the people feel they have had their say, whilst the intention to close has already been decided.

It didn't need Hitler to win the war to ruin this country; the politicians have done it for him 50 years on.

From Patricia Griffin, Linslade.
