. . . And made many friends.
SHE'S been at Woolworth's now for 40 years and it don't seem a day too much.
Assistant manager at Woolworths High Street branch in Leighton, Nicky Elliott, is pictured presenting Jackie Campbell with a bouquet to mark her 40th year at the store. Her other long-service gifts included a necklace, crystal glass and a coffee maker.
Jackie of Severn Walk, Leighton, was living at Stewkley when she left school at 15 and started work in a town toy shop.
"I'd only been there two weeks when the owner said she didn't need me any more so I walked out and got a job at Woolworths," she said.
"My first day was on the grocery counter, then they moved me to stationery and then to toys.
"It was lovely. Most of the staff were a lot older and were like mums to me."
She currently operates the Lottery machine at the rear of the shop and is popular with colleagues and customers.
"A lot of the staff have also been here a long time and we all get on really well together," said Jackie.
"Of course we have our ups and downs but who doesn't and I am very happy here."
When not at work, 55-year-old Jackie enjoys crossword puzzles, reading, eating out and visiting her husband Roger's family in Scotland.
"I would like to thank everyone I have worked with over the years for all their kindness and especially those customers who have become my friends," said Jackie.
"You've all been lovely."
